In an effort to arouse interest in technology among middle schoolers in the Twin
Cities area, the Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, and Vision Laboratory (AIRVL), the National Science Foundation, and the Digital Technology Center at the University of University of Minnesota are sponsoring a week long summer day camp. A class of approximately fifteen students will meet from 9:00 am until 3:30 pm Monday through Friday August 22-26, 2005. During this time the students will be introduced to both common technologies such as the use of a digital camera and
PowerPoint as well as some not so common technologies such as programming robots and manipulating digital
images through software. Students will build a circuit board with two flashing LEDs, build Palm Pilot Robot Kits (PPRKs), create dances for Sony AIBOs using MEdit, and develop a PowerPoint presentation including images manipulated using MATLAB. A light breakfast and full lunch as well as transportation will be provided at no cost.
